Help Stike Out Poverty!

Professional athletes are role models and community service is often an important part of their role on their teams. As a coach, you are instrumental in teaching youngsters not only the fundamentals of baseball, and teamwork but also the importance of good sportsmanship, service and giving back to the community. Your own example of volunteerism as a coach and the influence you have makes a positive impact on a child’s life and leads to success both on and off the field. We’d like to invite you and your team to take part in the Strike Out Poverty campaign and put these lessons into action to make a difference for people dealing with the challenges of poverty in Rochester.

Strike Out Poverty is a campaign in partnership with the Rochester Red Wings that supports Volunteers of America’s programs for homeless families and people at-risk of homelessness. There are three ways for youth baseball teams to participate in this important campaign, with varying levels of support, as outlined on the reverse of this letter.

We hope your team will help us to Strike Out Poverty and get behind this effort to end homelessness in Rochester. A representative from Volunteers of America is happy attend a team meeting or game to share information about their work in the community. Tours can be arranged for groups that want to visit the Guest House Emergency Shelter and learn more about the work that VOA does to prevent homelessness in Rochester.

Thank you for volunteering your time to coach baseball and serve as a positive influence and role model to our community’s kids. And, thank you for considering being a supporter of Strike Out Poverty. You are appreciated!

Please reach out to me at 585-402-7218 or via email at [email protected] to register your team for Strike Out Poverty.
